Call for Submissions: Arab Film Festival (deadline June 30)

Submissions being accepted for Arab film festival in the U.S.

An Arab Film Festival being held in the U.S. is calling for submissions including shorts, experimental, documentary and feature length films from Arab filmmakers.
The festival, being held by Mizna, a journal of Arab American literature, will take place in October in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This year’s themes are: the Arab world, the Islamic world, and/or the Arab/Muslim immigrant experience in the West.

The deadline for submissions is June 30. Criteria for film selection include artistic merit, technical skills and content. Muslim filmmakers are especially encouraged to submit their work. Submitted will not be returned.

Genesis facilitates an environment wherein creativity IS the act of investigation rather than
what is produced from it. As a 4-week (non-residential) intensive artist's residency for inter-
disciplinary, body-based artists our mission is to support artists in accessing space in which
to work and fortify a practice and a community from which to act globally. By asking artists to
commit to regular inquiry (2-3 hours a day, 5-6 days a week) without focus on a final
product, Genesis aims to heighten productivity of the collective at work in the project and to

Calling all audio and recording artists to retell and reproduce the Chicago experience through place, time and culture in audio recordings. Abstract sound, field recordings, text based/spoken word, and radio pieces alike will be considered.

These works will be presented at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion
Aug. 11th, 2008 from 6PM -9PM

Foto8 to award and display best photo works

International photographers whose work confronts, interprets and reflects on their surroundings and which offers a true perspective on the present world have the opportunity to have their work displayed in London's prestigious HOST Gallery through the first Foto8 Awards competition.

The deadline for submissions is May 24.

Photographers must submit personal or political work from the past 18 months to be judged.

Call for Submissions: Photography Competition, "Women's Communication Rights" (deadline May 1)

WACC Photo Competition 2008

Honours photographs that capture women communicating and women's communication rights in action, or photographs illustrating how women use communication to empower themselves. Organised by the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC), the theme of this annual photography competition is 'Women's Communication Rights'. The competition is open to men, women, and children, of all ages and from all countries. Each entrant may submit an unlimited number of photographs, but no entrant may win more than one prize in the contest.

Call for Submissions: Optica International Festival of Video Art (deadline September 1)

The purpose of this message is to inform you that we have already begun to work on Optica 2008, the Gijón International Festival of Video Art. Optica' s aim, organized by the cultural collective Interferencias, is the promotion of audiovisual culture. The Festival will take place in the city of Gijon (Asturias, Spain) from November 6th to 8th. For further information consult our web-site: http://www.opticafestival.com.

Optica 2008 is divided into different sections: independent artists, galleries, documentary section, meetings with artists, performances and parties.

Note for galleries: Optica Festival offers the opportunity of presenting new video works by emerging and established artists. The participation is through this invitation.
