Nonprofit film institute to support social documentaries
The U.S.-based Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program will award up to $1.5 million in grants to support documentary films focused on contemporary social issues. Interested participants must submit a copy of their film dialogue transcript along with an application by July 7.
The program encourages the exploration of innovative nonfiction storytelling, and promotes the exhibition of documentary films to a broader audience. Awards will be announced in November.

International film festival to be held in Egypt
Egypt’s Ministry of Culture invites filmmakers to participate in the 12th Ismailia International Film Festival for documentary and short films. The deadline to apply to participate is June 15, and films are to be submitted before August 1.
The festival aims to promote intercultural dialogue while supporting and encouraging filmmakers of documentary and short films. The festival accepts short and long documentaries, experimental short films and animations. To be eligible, films must have been produced between 2007 and 2008.

Artists and curators from MENASA region vie to create innovative projects for Art Dubai 2009
On the heels of a highly successful Art Dubai 2008, international art curators are submitting applications to work with artists from the emerging art centers of MENASA (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) to participate in the first annual Abraaj Capital Art Prize competition. The formal application deadline is 15 June 2008.
