Competition open for young cartoonists

Young cartoonists outside Europe are invited to submit cartoons that
express thoughts on Europe to the "World views on Europe" competition.
Deadline: September 5.

The competition, being coordinated by SUD, a group of French NGO's,
along with RFI and TV5 World and Cartooning for Peace, is aimed
specifically at youth outside of Europe. Works should also encourage
reflection and debate.

Winners will receive an invitation to an international conference held
by SUD in Paris, France on October 30.

WCA 5th International Video Shorts Festival Seeks Submissions

DEADLINE: October 15th, 2008

The 2009 Women’s Caucus for Art 5th International Video Shorts Festival Los Angeles, seeks challenging and visionary video short works that are original in their use of the medium.

Our juror is Véronique Sapin, internationally renowned French video artist and curator.

The 2009 WCA International Video Shorts Festival accepts video entries of all lengths under 15 minutes, and genres: experimental, narrative, documentary, animation, collage. WCA accepts pieces produced in any year. Video entries must be created by women videographers, or directed/co-directed by women.

Photo contest to highlight global importance of potatoes

To recognize the potato's importance in developing countries, a contest
is seeking the best photographs illustrating potato biodiversity,
cultivation, processing, trade, marketing and consumption. Deadline:
September 1.

The United Nations and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are
sponsoring the contest, to tie in with the International Year of the
Potato in 2008.

There are separate categories for professional and amateur
photographers, and participants can submit single digital images
or "photo stories" of four to eight related images, in either black-and-
white or color. Cash prizes will total US $11,000 as well as Nikon
cameras.

"We are looking for video art which, today, is already part of tomorrow's breeding ground," says Georg Elben, curator of the VIDEONALE 12. Quo vadis video art ? this is the question the VIDEONALE at the Bonn Kunstmuseum has addressed every two years since 1984. As of now all artists are invited to apply for the VIDEONALE 12 with a video work created in the past two years.
