Santa Monica, CA. (June 8, 2009) The Arts are going Green! The City of Santa Monica's Cultural Affairs Division and Office of Sustainability and the Environment's have created a unique partnership with Arts:Earth Partnership (AEP), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the cultural and creative sector become sustainable. AEP is a voluntary coalition of cultural facilities, theaters, museums, dance studios, art galleries, performing arts companies and individual artists collectively committed to achieving environmental sustainability.

"Mamori Sound Project" is a 2-week workshop/residency for professional
and semi-professional sound artists and composers with previous
experience in the area of sound experimentation and field recordings.
It takes place at Mamori Lake, in the middle of the Brazilian Amazon,
and involves theoretical/discussion presentations, field work and
studio work. The workshop/residency has a special focus on creative
approaches to the work with field recordings, through an extensive
exploration of natural sound environments. It does not have a technical

actor & photographer Dr. Mark Valinsky will begin this free
community experience for anyone who has a digital camera and may
have questions about how to improve their technique this is the

such as camera shooting mode, shutter speed, night shooting and
more. Mark will also offer advice relating cell phone camera

The program will take place at the UC Riverside Palm Desert Research
Center and the Boyd Deep Canyon Desert Research Center in Palm Desert.
