The International Festival of Arts & Ideas (Festival) celebrates and builds community, engages with vital issues, and promotes the arts. Each year, the Festival highlights the City of New Haven’s diverse and culturally rich community with events featuring world-class artists, thinkers, and leaders. Its additional programs include the annual Visionary Leadership Award and educational opportunities like the High School Fellows Program. The Festival was established in 1996 by Anne Calabresi, Jean M. Handley, and Roslyn Meyer, who envisioned an annual celebration in New Haven—a city steeped in a rich array of cultural and educational traditions—distinguished from other arts festivals by its fusion of the arts with events centered on sharing ideas.

FCA's Emergency Grants COVID-19 Fund continues to support artists whose performances or exhibitions were canceled or indefinitely postponed due to the pandemic. Since its launch on March 18 we have awarded 1,030 artists with $2,000 grants, totaling $2,060,000 in direct funding to artists. For context, this is more grants than FCA has disbursed in the past six years combined.
FCA received over 4,700 applications since the program launch. To assist as many artists as possible, we have extended the program through December. We encourage you to help us get the world out about this important resource for artists.

The 2021-2022 Studio Program Application is now OPEN. The deadline to submit is October 30, 2020.
The program provides six eligible early or mid-career artists living and working in New York City a free private studio space accessible 24/7, and a fellowship (dependent on funding.) Smack Mellon hosts two Open Studio events annually, and visits from curators, critics and gallerists, which provide significant exposure and invaluable career building opportunities..The program runs from September 1 to August 15. The studios are located on the lower level of our building at 92 Plymouth Street in Dumbo, Brooklyn and range in size from 250 to 300 square feet. The program does not provide living space.

The Salzburger Kunstverein now announces the call for the 2021 SpallArt Prize Salzburg. This is an international award for excellence in contemporary photography. The inaugural winner in 2019 was Pierre Descamps (France/Germany), the winner in 2020 is Luise Schröder (Germany) .
Sponsored by SpallArt, the SpallArt Prize Salzburg consists of a EUR 4,000 prize, a residency and solo exhibition at the Salzburger Kunstverein.
