Project Overview
Public art is an essential component in the creation of a civic identity.
Its presence contributes to a shared heritage and serves to honor a
community¡¯s history and culture. The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (RDA),
in partnership with the Arts Council for Long Beach, proposes a temporary
public art strategy that is both critically relevant and congruent to the
RDA¡¯s principle redevelopment goals. Artists/ artist teams will be
commissioned to temporarily transform a vacant lot at the northwest corner

The Politics in the Room is an exhibition in the form of eight video episodes distributed and archived online. It is the first public project of the LUX Associate Artists Programme and is loosely structured around a comment by the American artist Gregg Bordowitz that questioned not what constitutes politics in general but rather what are the politics of the room you are in.

We’re looking for story submissions about human and immigration rights from the public for our annual program “LA Storytellers”. This year’s theme is “Journeys Toward Justice: Capturing the Stories of Human Rights in the Context of Migration.” The selected stories will be displayed at an open house public event in May.
Life stories will be accepted in all languages and can be submitted in writing, audio, video or by photo essay. Submissions are due March 30th.
