frieze Writer's Prize 2009
frieze writer's prize is an annual international award to discover and promote new art critics. The award will be judged in 2009 by critic and art historian James Elkins, novelist and critic Ali Smith, and co-Editor of frieze magazine Jennifer Higgie.
•Entrants must submit one previously unpublished review of a recent contemporary art exhibition, approximately 700 words in length.
•Entries must be submitted in English, but may be a translation (this must be acknowledged).
•Entrants must be over 18 years old.
•To qualify, entrants may only previously have had a maximum of three pieces of writing on art published in any national or regional newspaper or magazine. Previous online publication is permitted.

ABOUT THE THEME:
The concept behind this juried show, as reflected in the title's multiple references, is the confluence of political, aesthetic, formal, conceptual, and environmental concerns manifesting in the visual arts. Specifically, we are looking to have a conversation about the use of recycled and/or sustainable materials in art-making.
Spring/summer 2009 opportunities in France
Artistay is a service for artists, writers, architects, academics, art teachers, curators…looking for a residency program in France in order to realize a personal artistic project.
We work with several art places offering a professional support to artists from all over the world and in various disciplines.
Applicants are responsible for the funding of the residency participation fees, they can though do an application with artistay even if they haven’t secured the funding yet. We can provide necessary documentation and contacts for funding advice.
Artistay service is free of charge for the applicant.

South Asian filmmakers can submit their documentary films to the seventh biennial Film South Asia '09, a South Asian film festival to take place in Kathmandu, Nepal, from September 17 to 20. Deadline: May 31.
Films must have been created after January 2007 and be in DVD or VCD format. Selected entrants will be announced in August and the directors of the three best films will receive citations and monetary prizes. Select documentaries will travel the world as part of traveling films South Asia. Entry is free.

One consciousness involves the creation of a culture. And this is made by
means of a process. If we wish it, the videoart can be consolidated like
one of the most important artistic expressions of our days. It's only
necessary the desire of hundreds of persons around the world.
We'll celebrate the "International Day of the Videoart", next 22th of
June. It's an initiative of Optica Festival. From here, we invite you to
take part of this event with your friends or individually, there where

Our goal is that the greater number of people celebrates and/or values the
importance of the audiovisual culture, during this day.

Announcing The Franklin Furnace Fund, supported by Jerome Foundation and the
Starry Night Fund of Tides Foundation. Applications are being accepted from
now through the postmark deadline of May 1, 2009.
Each year Franklin Furnace awards grants to emerging artists, allowing them
to produce major works in New York. Works may engage the Internet as an art
medium and/or venue. Grants may range between $2,000 and $10,000. Artists
from all areas of the world are encouraged to apply; full-time students are
ineligible.
Franklin Furnace has no curator; each year a new panel of artists reviews
all proposals. We believe that this peer panel system allows all kinds of
artists from all over the world an equal shot at presenting their work.

Project Overview
Public art is an essential component in the creation of a civic identity.
