New York LGBT Film Festival: call for submissions

The New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Film Festival

Since 1988, NewFest: The New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Film Festival has been one of the most comprehensive forums of international LGBT film/video, and an important exhibition platform for independent film/video makers. Each year, NewFest provides a professional and public context for the presentation of innovative and challenging work that reflects the broad range of practice and ideas found in contemporary media.
Submissions of films/videos by, about, or of interest to lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, or transgendered persons are now being accepted for NewFest 2007, which will take place May 31-June 10. In addition, submitted works under 30 minutes by NYC area makers are eligible for programming in NewFest's new monthly Local Shorts Showcase at the IFC Center!

OneLeaf "Fine" Arts are seeking experimental and progressive artists of any 2-D & 3-D mediums to submit work concerning their current, previous or childhood neighborhood.

Work should be contemporary in style and may reflect any of the following:

Artists in Schools--New Residency Grant Program from the California Arts Council

The California Arts Council is pleased to announce "Artists in Schools," a program designed to support artists in residency activities that take place in schools, both in the classroom and in after-school settings.

"The California Arts Council is dedicated to supporting arts education in California schools," said Muriel Johnson, Director of the California Arts Council. "The Governor and Legislature slated education funding specifically for visual and performing arts, and it is important that children work with experienced artists to augment the day-to-day instruction. The "Artists in Schools" program helps bring professionals to the school setting."

The event is addressed at all artistic projects that explore the interaction between “synthetic” and “organic” life, and innovative projects that develop the field of Artificial Life. In previous years, award-winning projects have included robots, electronic avatars, chaotic algorithms, knowbots, cellular automata, computer viruses and virtual ecologies that evolved with the interaction of the participant. Los Angeles: The Department of Cultural Affairs' (DCA) Cultural Grants Program is now accepting individual artists 2007-08 grant applications. Printed applications are available at DCA hosted workshops (listed below), City of Los Angeles Public Library branches, Council District Offices and Field Offices, and DCA Community Art Centers. Applications will also be available on the DCA website, www.culturela.org after September 15, 2006.

Recycled Art Artists - Los Angeles

DejaDesign and ECO-LA galleries looking for recycled art artists

Dejadesign and ECO-LA-- the "eco-logical" art Galleries located in LA are looking for artists and vendors who make art and functional art, clothing, accessories from recycled and recovered
elements. Starting in the late fall the gallery will be sponsoring monthly Saturday (ultimately weekly) "eco-art" events in it's 2500 sf gallery and adjoining 3000sf warehouse space.

Vendors will be offered stall space while at the same time eco vendors like Prius, bio-diesel, solar, etc will give free demonstrations of their products. Artists will also be creating original art on recycled billboard vinyl-- something the gallery has been sponsoring for the last two years. The gallery will also accept works on consignment in the gallery proper.
