Third International Festival of Literature and Culture for Slavic Traditions is accepting entries for its literary competition.
Categories include poetry, prose, translations, drama and more. The festival aims to promote the preservation and development of the Russian language, traditions and networking between poets, writers, playwrights and translators worldwide who write in Russian worldwide.
The program of the event includes the meetings with publishers, workshops and other events. The event is sponsored by a number of media and publishing houses. The winners will get partial reimbursement of their expenses connected with their attendance at the festival.

The W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography is presented annually to a photographer whose past work and proposed project, as judged by a panel of experts, follows the tradition of W. Eugene Smith's concerned photography and dedicated compassion exhibited during his 45-year career as a photographic essayist.

Organizers Ayyam Gallery hope the initiative will support new artistic talent in the Middle East.
The contest, open to photographers born in or after 1980, requires a proposal for a solo exhibition and 12 photographs via email or in CD form.
The 15 finalists will be featured in an exhibit at The Ayyam Art Center in Dubai on September 13.
The first place winner will be awarded USD$6,500, while USD$2,500 and USD$1,000 prizes will be given to second and third place finalists, respectively.
The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2011. Proposals can be submitted in English or Arabic.

Aspiring filmmakers in the U.S. interested in social justice and documentary filmmaking can apply for a fellowship in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The George Stoney Fellowship program, sponsored by Working Films, seeks a candidate with a demonstrated commitment to social justice and an interest in community engagement and social networking. This eight-to 10 week position starts in May or June 2011. The fellow will serve as a part-time, temporary staff member, earning USD$10-$15 an hour.
Regular responsibilities for the fellow include attending development meetings, participating in audience engagement efforts and contributing to the organization's blog and social networks.

The Silver Lake Jubilee is the awesome, grassroots street fair that showcases the unique artistic character and culture of the Silver Lake community and surrounding neighborhoods. Taking place on May 21st and 22nd, this year's Jubilee will feature a new Theater Village comprised of an exciting interactive theatrical creation called INSTA-GROW THEATER. A collaboration of various theater artists and companies who produce work in the Silver Lake and surrounding areas, INSTA-GROW THEATER, will allow street fair visitors to step into the roles of actors, playwrights and designers and create live, on-the-spot theater!
