2012 Watercolor Demonstrations Series

Five nationally-known watercolor masters present ideas about how they create their award-winning paintings. Join us to see their work, lectures and demonstrations live! Free parking and restaurants are within walking distance. The series will start on Sunday September 23rd with artist Karen Frey from 10am to 3pm. Demos will continue on Sat Oct 27 with Judy Schroeder from 10am to 3pm. Jim Millard on Sat Nov 10th from 10am to 3pm. Venice Community Service Mural Project

"Friends of Walgrove" Elementary School has received $1000 in community improvement funds to paint murals on both sides of the three freestanding plywood handball walls (height:12', width:16', depth:7") in our large schoolyard. In accordance with the funding requirements, eligible artists must live and/or work in Venice and will be credited on the murals along with Venice Neighborhood Council, the funding organization. Submissions must include images or sketches of proposed murals and will be chosen by committee based on their broad appeal and whether they inspire imagination in children. Student and parent volunteers will be available to help paint the designs. Paint supplies and artist stipend to equal $1000 in total. The deadline to submit is 9/28/2012.

Open Call: Composition/Soundscape for Paraphrasing Babel

The Viewmaster Foundation from Maastricht – Netherlands, together with Intro in situ; music in context in Maastricht, announces an Open Call for composers and (sound) artists to send in work, to be included in the large-scale video art and sound art exhibition Paraphasing Babel – Video Art and Soundscapes on Language in Public Space. The exhibition will run in the evenings from October 19 to November 18 in public space in Maastricht and Heerlen, the two largest cities of the Southern Netherlands, close to the borders with Belgium and Germany.

27 international video artists and 7 Sound artists will participate in the exhibition. Two sound artworks will be selected through this Open Call. The deadline is September 17th.
