A*DESK, Independent Institute of Criticism and Contemporary Art, is dedicated to learning, publishing and research related to the criticism of contemporary art. Since 2005 A*DESK has published A*Magazine, an online magazine looking at criticism and contemporary art, which has become a point of reference in Catalonia, Spain and throughout Latin-America. Since 2007 A*DESK has run workshops and art programmes.

International Studio Art PhD: Call for Applications

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Transart Institute is offering a low-residency PhD program for advanced studio art. The PhD at Transart is a three year full time degree program with an average work commitment of 30 hours per week, validated by the University of Plymouth, UK. The degree is offered exclusively for practice-based research (creative work) accompanied by a written thesis.

Applications open: CTG Student Ambassador Program

The CTG Student Ambassadors is a leadership development program for young people with a strong interest in theatre. CTG Student Ambassadors will work with other young leaders and theatre professionals to engage more young people in CTG and the LA theatre community. Gain experience, meet new friends, share your love of theatre and have fun!

The City of Brea Art Gallery and Watercolor West, a Transparent Watercolor Society presents
44th Annual Watercolor West International Juried Exhibition
October 13-December 16, 2012

Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, October 13, from 5:00-7:00pm, for the awards ceremony, live music, refreshments, and to see the artwork! Admission is free for the reception.

The City of Brea Art Gallery is proud to host Watercolor West’s annual juried exhibition. As standard bearers for the traditions of transparent watercolor technique, Watercolor West will highlight the finest examples of the watercolor medium. This year’s juror, Karen Frey, has selected 100 works of art from over 700 entries submitted worldwide which will be on display in the Gallery.

2012 Watercolor Demonstrations Series

Five nationally-known watercolor masters present ideas about how they create their award-winning paintings. Join us to see their work, lectures and demonstrations live! Free parking and restaurants are within walking distance. The series will start on Sunday September 23rd with artist Karen Frey from 10am to 3pm. Demos will continue on Sat Oct 27 with Judy Schroeder from 10am to 3pm. Jim Millard on Sat Nov 10th from 10am to 3pm. Richard Martinez on Sat Dec 1rst from 10am to 3pm and Ruth Ellen Hoag on Sun Dec 16th from 1pm to 5pm. The cost is $25.00 each or $100.00 for the series (when available). Field Studies is a four-day summer-school led by three acclaimed sound artists and composers. It explores the possibilities of engaging with places through listening, and working with recorded sound as a creative and practical tool in architecture as well as composition and art practice.

OIL PAINTING CLASSES:
Oil Painting Workshop for Adults with Daryl Gortner:
In each course, students will learn how to paint a specific type of still life, subject matter or landscape. Each course focuses on the foundation of beginning/ intermediate painting such as color theory, color mixing, and painting techniques. Each course will also include a brief lecture and an introduction to painting. All skill levels are welcome; individual attention is given to each student. The paints used for this workshop are Windsor Newton water mixable oil paints. All materials, supplies and canvas are included in the $85 fee.
