is a juried exhibition to be held June 10 - July 3, 2009 at Phyllis
Stein Art in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Price Latimer Agah, Annie
Wharton and Phyllis Stein will jury the competition. Established and
emerging artists are invited to submit up to three artworks related to
the exhibition title, which is inspired by the optimism and transition,
as well as the contradictions and vicissitude, of our current
socio-political times. The artwork submitted should address and/or
express the artist's interpretation of this topic. Submissions are $30US
and can be accepted online here.

HIAP - Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme invites international visual artists to submit applications for HIAP Production Residencies for the period of 2009/10.
The deadline for applications is 1st July 2009 (postmark).
HIAP Production Residencies provide professional visual artists with an opportunity to concentrate on developing new concepts and / or producing new works in Helsinki. Production support is offered for the whole production process from the first idea until the finished piece.

Full Performances with Art Work: Oct-Nov. 2009
Lineage Dance seeks proposals from artists who can bring the dynamics and
shape of the dance into visual form through paintings or drawings that evoke
different images of brain activity. These art pieces will be photographed
and projected onto the backdrop during the performances in the Fall of 2009
creating a landscape/ environment for the dance.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend one of the preview shows with
dates listed above to shape their vision. (MAY 29,30 OR JUNE 5,6)

frieze Writer's Prize 2009
frieze writer's prize is an annual international award to discover and promote new art critics. The award will be judged in 2009 by critic and art historian James Elkins, novelist and critic Ali Smith, and co-Editor of frieze magazine Jennifer Higgie.
•Entrants must submit one previously unpublished review of a recent contemporary art exhibition, approximately 700 words in length.
•Entries must be submitted in English, but may be a translation (this must be acknowledged).
•Entrants must be over 18 years old.
•To qualify, entrants may only previously have had a maximum of three pieces of writing on art published in any national or regional newspaper or magazine. Previous online publication is permitted.

The concept behind this juried show, as reflected in the title's multiple references, is the confluence of political, aesthetic, formal, conceptual, and environmental concerns manifesting in the visual arts. Specifically, we are looking to have a conversation about the use of recycled and/or sustainable materials in art-making.

We work with several art places offering a professional support to artists from all over the world and in various disciplines.
Applicants are responsible for the funding of the residency participation fees, they can though do an application with artistay even if they haven’t secured the funding yet. We can provide necessary documentation and contacts for funding advice.
