Call for Visual Artist/Muralist Palms Neighborhood LA Commons is searching for a Lead Artist to work with a core Youth Arts Team (Age 15-25) to collect neighborhood stories at the sites and design and paint images on Utility boxes in Palms Neighborhood. Youth Arts team members will also be paid a stipend for their work. LA Commons will coordinate Project partners, supply acquisition, workshop space and recruiting the Youth Arts team. Two lead artists will be hired to each work with a youth team to design and paint 4 utility boxes.
Project Partners: LA Commons, Palms Neighborhood Association, Office of LA City Councilman Herb Wesson and Hamilton High School.

Job Description
The LA Commons Project Assistant will work
as a core member of the LA Commons Community Arts team with the Community Arts
Program Director and Youth Mentors.
The Project Assistant will serve in a key role in organization and
support of the LA Commons Community Arts Programs. Projects this fall
2011 include: USC Light Pole Banner Project, Palms Utility Box Mural
Project, and MidCity Light Pole Banner Project.
Specific duties:

Obtain workshop hosting supplies and
space use confirmations

Coordinate check requests, invoices,
and project budgets.

Support organizing and “day of”
implementation of neighborhood story gathering summits

Theme & Eligibility: This is an open call to professional artists -
male and female - who live in the State of California. The theme is to

The Curator of Exhibitions for The Women's City Club of Pasadena,
Margaret Danielak, owner of DanielakArt, and one member of the Board of
Directors of The Women's City Club of Pasadena, will select the

As part of the upgrade and expansion of the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Medical Center Campus in the unincorporated neighborhood of Willowbrook, CA, a covered pedestrian walkway around the campus has been provided. The pedestrian walkway is 900 feet long and features a street-side panel or "canvas" that is approximately 4 feet high. In August 2011, volunteer organization City Year worked with the children from Freedom Schools to design a mural for the first 100 feet.

fREAK mACHINE is a monthly performance event
intended to entertain its audience. But embedded
in the format is an opportunity for theaters companies,
and other creative groups to try out new work, promote
current work and connect with other artists and audience members.
A group could bring a five minute snippet from a
show they are currently rehearsing or presenting and use
it as a kind of on-stage commercial for the show. A season
or even the philosophical mission of a company could be
promoted in the same way. A company can donate a pair
of tickets to be given away during the evening's raffle in
exchange for an onstage promotion from the host.
On the creative side a writers group or someone in the
process of workshopping a piece could bring five minutes
EAST HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. (Sept. 9, 2011) -- Organizers of the third annual East Hollywood ArtCycle are calling out to artists to compete in a juried art contest at the event. ArtCycle happens on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2 to 10 p.m., at Santa Monica Blvd. and Vermont Ave.
The first East Hollywood Outdoor Painting Award competition asks artists to create a work of art with the neighborhood of East Hollywood as their inspiration. Entries will be judged by a panel experts from the Los Angeles arts scene.
"This will be the first juried art contest to be held at the ArtCycle," said event co-producer Jennifer Moran. "The contest is our way of elevating artists in our community and bringing attention to their work."

The 3rd Annual East Hollywood ArtCycle is on Saturday, September 17th 2011 from 2-10pm.
ArtCycle started 3 years ago as an art crawl on bicycles and it has developed into an art and cycling street festival with an activist twist. We hold the festival on Santa Monica Blvd in between Vermont and Virgil where we one day hope to see a park!
