I asked myself the same question some time ago, as what I was then painting was turning into what everyone else was painting. To cut a long story short, I now only paint from Mother Nature herself. It is only with her that I find the absolutes of truth and beauty. So, to me and my work Truth and Beauty are equally important.
Perhaps it depends on what you want to do with your art, after all all art is about communication, the means (dance, music, poetry, visual art etc. etc.) is simply the vehicle to carry the message from my (your) mind to the recipients mind.
Logically if I remember correctly truth does not exist but rather simply a singular perception of events from a given viewpoint. perhaps the jury is still out until we can define what is beauty and what is truth can they exist at the same time or are they independent?.

but to know them
is to know that they have no name
