HALCYON ARTS LAB FELLOWSHIP
At the intersection of art and social change, this nine-month residential fellowship is designed to provide support and resources to emerging artists working on projects which address issues of social justice, civic engagement, and community building. Arts Lab fellows strive to expand their practices and grow as leaders in their respective fields.
Adapting the well-honed methodology of the Halcyon model, Halcyon Arts Lab fosters creativity through a supportive environment of space, access, and community. The program accepts six national and international fellows as well as two Washington, DC-based artists in each cohort.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Emerging artists who are interested in further developing a socially-engaged practice and creating lasting connections and partnerships in Washington, DC.
Halcyon defines emerging artist as early career artist how as demonstrated promising artistic development and demonstrates dedication to their practices but is at a pivotal point in their career where they could benefit from further training and mentorship.
Halcyon Arts Lab Fellows should be:
• Self-directed and able to work independently but will benefit from the program elements including, workshops, mentorship and training to further develop their careers.
• Hold a desire to create, grow as leaders and expand their practices.
• Interest in group collaboration including critiques and developing programming with their fellow artist in residence and community members.
• Interested in being a part of and contributing to the wider Halcyon community to including fostering relationships with fellow entrepreneurs in residence in our sister program, Halcyon incubator.
• Interested in expanding the social impact of their projects and creating work that demonstrates critical inquiry into social issues, and actively engages groups and communities, placing collaborative project outcomes at the heart of the creative process.

Second Open Call:
BTP x Monochrome (Open Call to Artists: Exhibition/Fair opportunity in the DMV area)
In conjunction with By the People 2019, Halcyon and Monochrome Collective will host an art fair exhibition featuring some of the DMV's most talented, emerging, and exciting artists. BTP x Monochrome aims to highlight the artistic richness and diversity of our community of working artists, and to cultivate a culture of support for practicing artists and locally-focused collecting among residents and visitors alike.
BTP x Monochrome will take place from June 8-23, 2019 in a to be announced location adjacent to the By the People 2019 festival sites. Programming throughout the 3-week exhibition will encourage visitor-ship and access both before and during the city-wide festival.
The exhibition will be curated by Nina O'Neil, founder of Monochrome Collective. Monochrome is a DC-based art consultancy, supporting artists and empowering the next generation of art collectors. Nina has been working in the arts in DC for nearly 20 years, while consistently making connections and building collections. Read more about Monochrome here.
Works submitted to BTP x Monochrome will be juried by a panel of local artists, curators, collectors and arts practitioners.
ELIGIBILITY
This open call is intended for all local artists, regardless of media, age, gender, and career-level. Applicants are not required to have formal training and artwork does not need to represent recent works. We encourage anyone with an artistic practice -- full-time, part-time, sometimes -- to submit their work!
