Japanese American National Museum Job Posting Director of Grants Full-Time/
Exempt

The mission of the Japanese American National Museum, home of the National
Center for the Preservation of Democracy, “is to promote understanding and
appreciation of America’s ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the
Japanese American experience. Based in Los Angeles’ historic Little Tokyo
neighborhood, it has a nation-wide focus and international base of support.
An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute and AAM accredited, the National
Museum (www.janm.org) is recognized as one of the nations’ premier cultural
museums. In 2010, the Japanese American National Museum was awarded
America’s highest honor for museum, the National Medal from the IMLS.

Director of Grants will lead efforts to develop a strategic plan to secure
funding from private and corporate foundations and government sources to
support Japanese American National Museum revenue goals, working closely
with program and fundraising staff. Research and analyze statistical,
social, economic and demographic data and literature to support National
Museum initiatives and programs in coordination with the President/CEO and
Vice President of External Relations. Manage the reporting requirements
associated with receiving grant funding or contracts in partnership with
program and finance staff. Support and/or lead special projects as they may
arise within the organization. Assist with other fundraising projects as
requested including Annual Gala Dinner & Silent Auction solicitation.

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university
preferred.

A working knowledge of grantsmanship and grant management with at least 2
years of previous experience. Additional experience in individual giving
fundraising or development operations is preferred. Previous experience
working in a non-profit or museum beneficial. Superior organizational
skills and attention to detail are critical; must have strong ability to
multi-task, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet multiple
competing deadlines. Experience in professional or technical writing,
especially in writing for fund raising. Familiarity with regional, national
and Japanese funders is desired. Knowledge of Japanese American history and
culture helpful but not required; however, sensitivity to issues of
diversity and ethnicity is essential. Experience in Raiser’s Edge or
