We do make films you may call it videoart, experimental video or film, what's in a name, they're are the fruits of our memories, thoughts, stimulations and sensations of our past or present.
But why aren't we paid for our work ? ok, it's not a painting you can buy,.... But why are there entry fees for festivals ? Why do festivals claim they have no funding etc ? I'm not talking about the mainstream here. But the underground circuit and festivals. Do we already have to be happy that they show our films ? That's it ? What about the equipment we need ? Collaborations with other people isn't always easy. If I want a certain actress or dancer in my movie, they ask to be paid. With what ? And funding from councils isn't always an easy job, you may be sponsored for one project or so, but if you make experimental films all the time, short or long,...., I have to sponsor myself. Mostly there is incest in the artworld, there are always the same names who are getting funding from gouverments. I'm getting sick of it.

Unpaid, unappreciated, purely exploited

It's the same story in the writer's world. I try my best to pay my contributors, if not in $$$ which I don't have, then in publicity and promotion. Nepotism and cliquishness rule the publishing industry where if you are not connected then you don't have a snowball's chance in hell to get published. All I can say is JUST KEEP BANGING ON THOSE DOORS! Something will open up eventually. Hey, and if a film prophet is not known in his or her own land, then take it abroad. There's a whole world out there!

Mostly there is incest in the artworld

A friend (David) and I recently attended a watercolor exhibit opening reception. He ran into a woman from a previous art class and we all got to talking. She expressed her frustrations with not being able to get into any galleries to exhibit her work. When we parted ways I told David, "This is exactly one of my biggest concerns.". David replied, "It's a small world locally and it seems there are key players. It's tuff to break into.".

So I understand what you mean by "incest artworld". It's tragic that funding can't be distributed evenly or at the very least without bias.

Stay strong and keeping moving forward!
