The 2nd West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival
April 31st and May 1st, 2011
The Electronic Media Area of the West Virginia University Department of Art is pleased to announce a call for entries to the 2nd annual West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival. We seek independent, unique and compelling work in film, video and animation. All interested artists, filmmakers, and multimedia enthusiasts are encouraged to submit. Student submissions are also encouraged. Send us your work!
Guidelines
There are no rules governing content or artistic approach. There are no entry fees for submission of work. We only seek well crafted, compelling or conceptually challenging works in video, film and multimedia. The only restriction for competitive entries is a 20-minute maximum running time.
Categories of Competition
Works will be considered for five competitive categories:
• Documentary Short
• Narrative Short
• Animation/ Experimental
• Student Production
• Energy Theme (works in any genre that take the theme “Energy” as a focus)
The Energy Theme In an effort to draw attention to the complex problems and issues connecting energy, economics, the environment, and culture, festival organizers seek works in any genre that take the theme “Energy” as a focus. These works should address or reflect notions of energy or the many ways in which it is implicated in contemporary experience, such as climate change/global warming, consumption, sustainability, behavior/lifestyle, fossil fuels, renewable sources, economics, politics, industry… etc.
Awards
Modest awards have been established by the festival organizers to recognize work of exceptional accomplishment. They include a $200.00 Best of Festival award, and five $100 awards in each of the festival categories: Best Documentary Short, Best Narrative Short, Best Animation/Experimental, Best Student Work, and Best Energy Themed Project.
Deadline for Entries
The deadline for the reception of entries is April 1, 2010. Notification of acceptance will be made as soon as possible prior to screening.
Location/Dates
The 2011 West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival will be held on April 31st and May 1st in the Bloch Hall Auditorium of the Creative Arts Center, home of the WVU Art Department, and located in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Jury
Each festival submission will be carefully reviewed by a screening committee of six practicing, professional artists and filmmakers.
Submissions
NO ENTRY FEE is required to submit work for consideration.
All entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form which can be downloaded from the website: www.mountaineerfilmfest.org. Entry forms may be sent by standard mail or emailed to wvmsff@gmail.com.
Entries may be submitted in one of 4 ways:
• Send by mail a standard definition DVD (NTSC, any region)
• Send by mail a your video on a data DVD (.mov or .avi)
• Upload your full resolution video file (.mov or .avi) to Vimeo.com and make the original source video available for download. Send video link in email to wvmsff@gmail.com along with entry form.
• Upload your full resolution video file (Quicktime or .avi) to: dropbox.com, yousendit.com or rapidshare.com. Follow uploading and sharing instructions. Send download link in email to wvmsff@gmail.com along with entry form.
