First day of involvement with AMP is today, 49 wks after joining! Confession of a block I'm trying to breakthrough!

I suppose I just felt overwhelmed at the thought of exploring here, or it could be a subconscious resistance to activating my art life and connecting with others in that way, even though all of this is so wonderful and sacred and necessary for me. I think it's both of these things as I have suffered quite a long and numbingly baffling resistance to making new work. Even now, that I have a show less than a month away, I still can't seem to make myself go into the studio.

I suppose I just felt overwhelmed at the thought of exploring here, or it could be a subconscious resistance to activating my art life and connecting with others. I think it's both of these things as I have suffered quite a long and numbingly baffling resistance to making new work. Even now, that I have a show less than a month away, I still can't seem to make myself go into the studio. All these ideas are painting themselves in my head and there is a strange kind of empty feeling at the center of the inaction, which upon scraping away a little, reveals a slight ouch....which I dare not touch much as it gets more sensitive and it says "I feel guilty that I'm not doing it!" Another voice then says "So what...don't if you don't feel like it. Be true to yourself".

“Meet, Greet and Eat” Dada – 2009 Day de Dada Confab

Day de Dada April4th Confab

We are getting ourselves in gear for a new season of Dada art on Staten Island. The Eternal Knitter, Alergic to B's and I are sending out announcements for our Confab on April 4th at ETG Book Cafe. We hope to get a lively group together on the 4th to plan an "Art Parade" at the Staten Island Art by the Ferry Festival on June 6th. Art by the Ferry is a new festival (only the second year) but plans are buzzing and we hope to bring some perfomance art into it on a larger scale than last year.

here's why i've been away

(from zz baggins not quite so personal and irregular diary)...

unlikely considerations

So as you know, I have given notice as Art Director of Unlikely 2.0 in order to concentrate more on my book ventures. I anticipated the last mid-month art issue (linked above) to be the final one that I would orchestrate, however, Jonathan has asked me to stay on another month, thereby giving him more time to find a replacement. Of course, I have agreed to do so (how could I not) ... Jonathan has been very good to me! And while I am partly sad to be giving it up, I am excited about the extra time it will allow me to work on my stuff. An additional benefit is that I will be able to submit my own art there again the following month and thereafter... no conflict of interests anymore.

Musical Theatre Composers & Writers, ATTN:

Locally in LA, as we all know, there's no off-off bdwy scene for new theater work-outs to occur. There's now an ongoing venue in the heart of Hollywood offering space to present unknown musical theatre, showcase ops for 10- to 45-minute pieces. These can be excerpts, a 1st reading-singing, the like; can allow for audience feedback, to test how well an untried and previously unstaged musical work works.

The location is an open, fairly large jazz room, a bar and grill with a grand piano and small riser stage and sound system. The music doesn't have to be jazz, but it has to be original and interesting musically. The room easily seats 75 with tables and booths, and has held over 100. Singers regularly gather there to perform.

The Politics in the Room -
In Eight Chapters
16 March - 16 April

http://www.thepoliticsintheroom.org

The Politics in the Room is an exhibition in the form of eight video episodes distributed and archived online. It is the first public project of the LUX Associate Artists Programme and is loosely structured around a comment by the American artist Gregg Bordowitz that questioned not what constitutes politics in general but rather what are the politics of the room you are in.

Scrying Phantom Seas ~ Emerging Visions #14 has emerged

Welcome the Emergence of "Scrying Phantom Seas" Emerging Visions visionary art ezine #14

http://emergingvisions.blogspot.com

Listen to the heart of bliss.
On open sand, feel
breeze, vibrance
under oceanic starlight.
Breathing eternity, open
inward to see intricately
expanding visions -- poetry:
thought in magical splendor.
All art is magical; all magic is art.
Yet they are not the same, and part
of a grander landscape, embracing
sky and sea.
