Haus am Waldsee has been among the leading venues for contemporary art in Germany since it was launched as an exhibition space in 1946, bringing to post-war Berlin the first solo shows of esteemed international artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Joan Miró and Georges Braque. Today, Haus am Waldsee’s expansive program encompasses art, design, architecture and music. Hosting up to five exhibitions a year, and many events that also take place in its serene sculpture park, Haus am Waldsee has established itself as an institution where innovative positions and artistic practices are exhibited, explored and debated. Haus am Waldsee fosters dialogue between visitors, artists, scientists, and practitioners from diverse fields of expertise. To this end, regularly conducted events include artist talks, dinners, concerts, performances, summer schools, and openings for children.

The Director is the public face of Haus am Waldsee and is responsible for setting its curatorial strategy, defining its exhibition program, curating exhibitions, and securing funding opportunities for Haus am Waldsee’s next term, starting June 1, 2022 (five years with possibility of extension). In financial, administrative, and legal matters, the Director is supported by the Managing Director.

In the new Director, Haus am Waldsee’s Board seeks an inspirational, innovative leader who can take Haus am Waldsee on the next stage of its journey. They will be an effective manager of people and resources who can foster an environment where creativity and criticality can thrive. They will have leadership experience in cultural institutions. They will have sufficient breadth to embrace a diverse and multidisciplinary approach to developing their vision. They will have the credibility to operate effectively within Berlin’s creative and political context, the city’s and national funding bodies, the engaged and supporting Board of Trustees and Haus am Waldsee’s 700+ members strong association of friends and supporters.

The Director will receive a salary according to TV-L E 14 (public salary scheme grade 14).

Applications will be accepted until September 30, 2021. Applicants should submit a CV and a short personal statement. For further information, please refer to the Haus am Waldsee website or contact Leonie von Gadow: application@hausamwaldsee.de
