Filmmakers from around the world can submit entries to the Jordan Short Film Festival 2009 (JSFF). The deadline for submissions is September 15.

Submitted films should aim to promote dialogue between civilizations as well as promote intercultural dialogue. Films should be subtitled in English if the original language is not English.

JSFF will take place November 10 to 14, and will simultaneously host workshops, discussion panels, competitions, and meetings with filmmakers.

Professional and amateur Colombian photographers can participate in a contest of photos related to Colombian heritage. Entrants must submit a set of between 10 to 20 photographs. The deadline for entries is August 14.

Photographs must be unpublished and reflect the current concept of cultural heritage, referring to a legacy and a heritage shared by individuals in the community, region or nation. Entrans must be Colombian nationals or foreigners who can show a minimum of five years of residence in Colombia.

Two prizes will be awarded: a US$5,000 prize and a second of US$2,500. Additionally, all winning photographs will be published in the Gazette of the and will be part of a public exhibition.

The Women's Affairs Center in Gaza is preparing to launch its first festival for women's films before the end of 2009, reported Menassat.

To be held under the title "Gaza in the eyes of women," the festival aims to shed light on the cinema of women and highlight the creativity existing in ranks of Arab and Palestinian women. It will launch in September 2009 at the Rashad al-Shawa cultural center in Gaza City.

The festival is projected to screen around 50 films, which will include local entries, as well as films from Egypt, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco, Sudan and Jordan.

Youth journalists -- under 25 years of age -- can submit a one-minute video related to children's rights, either by illustrating a right or referencing children's rights as a whole. Deadline: August 30.

A total of 10 videos will be selected and featured on UNICEF- Voices of Youth, a site dedicated to empowering youth worldwide. One video will be named the winner on November 20 at the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and it will be distributed to TV channels around the world.

Submissions can be sent by an individual or a group. Videos should be original and free of copyright materials. Videos in all languages are accepted, but an English language transcript of the script or summary must be included.

Filmmakers with work relating to global environmental issues are invited to submit their films to the 18th Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival, to take place March 5 to 7, 2010. Deadline for entries: September 15.

The festival has two categories: Environmental Films and Environmental Films for Children. The Environmental Films category will accept entries only from Asia, Oceania or Polynesia; the Environmental Films for Children category accepts entries from around the world.

Monetary awards ranging from JPY100,000 (US$1059) to JPY400,000 (US$4237) will be awarded to the winners. All winners will be notified by January 31, 2010.
