The Fondazione di Venezia is pleased to announce the second phase of the residency program Art Enclosures which began in 2008 in cooperation with Polymnia and the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice, with the aim of building bridges between local realities and contemporary arts production from abroad.
As an implementation instrument of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the Programme promotes the mobility of young artists through sojourns in art residencies abroad so as to foster creativity and cultural diversity. It recognizes the important contribution of artists in the creative process and their central role in nurturing the diversity of cultural expressions.
Artist-in-residence bursaries are being offered in institutions around the world in three fields: visual arts, creative writing and music.

The Sony World Photography Award photo competition is seeking pictures that represent a series or a story, from amateur and professional photographers around the world. Deadline: December 4.
Those submitting to the professional category should earn the majority of their income from photography. There are 12 categories in the professional category, and 10 for amateurs. All images should have been shot in 2009.
The prize for the professional category is US$25,000 and the amateur will be awarded US$5000. Selected photos will be displayed at the Sony World Photography Awards 2011.

Video producers around the world that are at least 18-years-old can submit a video that completes the phrase "Democracy is -•" for the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., New York and Hollywood in the U.S. Deadline: January 31, 2010.
Videos must be in English or have English subtitles. They can be any style: fiction or documentary, animated or live action; and must be no longer than three minutes.
Seven winners - one each from the Western Hemisphere, Europe, Middle East/North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South & Central Asia, East Asia/Pacific and one anonymous winner - will be announced in June, 2010.

The NSCAD feminist collective is seeking work by artists and writers across
Canada (women, men, transfolk, radical feminists, closet
feminists) in any
media (time-based, new media, old media, print media, flat media, mass
media, essays, rants, poems) addressing the title Feminism:
Now. This juried show will take place December 1st to 12th 2009, concurrent
with the 20th anniversary of the École Polytechnique Massacre (December
6th).
Written/textual works will be
considered for a zine to accompany the show.

Fundamental processes: Printmaking and the Artist

Throughout the history of art, artists have turned to printmaking to understand better their practices in other media. Others find
printmaking sustains them over an entire career. For this exhibition,we solicit prints that reflect the artist's evolution with the printmaking process. In particular we seek works that demonstrate a high-point in the artist's pursuit of a specific technique, understanding of the relationship of subject to the printmaking process, or challenge interpretation of what a print is.
