Colorado Voter Disenfranchisement Scheme

device's picture

Dear AMP Members:

The courts in Colorado have just struck down a scheme to disenfranchise over 10,000 overseas voters, disproportionately Democrats. Unfortunately, most, like myself, will not receive ballots in time.

If you know someone, please let them know they can cast a provisional ballot which can be found on line.

Here is the letter I sent to friends and family. I honestly (cliché alert) never believed this could happen to me.
------

Dear Everyone,

My voter registration, legally signed and reconfirmed about a month and a half ago, was one of over 10,000 stuck from the rolls in Colorado. The State Courts has renewed our right to vote with provisional ballots, which luckily I'd already done a few day ago, thinking it was merely lost in the mail.

DON'T BE NAIVE.

They know that with the exception of soldiers, 90% of overseas votes are democratic. That's why Lieberman's offering to count military votes and not all overseas ones may have cost Gore the election in 2000.

COLORADO is listed as one of the 3 to 5 swing states in this election. it is leaning towards Obama and clearly some people, including the Republican Secretary of State who tried to throw out my ballot, would like to give it a nudge.

Nudge back.

This is not the friend of a friend that this happened to; This is me, Don Device, or Don McPhee as some of you have known me.

OVERSEAS FRIENDS: Make sure you vote and that your letter is off by tomorrow.

OTHER FRIENDS:

Please pass this along. No kidding, if I'd waited for my ballot as I'd been told, there'd be one less vote for Obama.

Even if you don't want Obama to win, I can't believe you'd want to win like this.

Hang on everyone, just a few more days.

Best,

don
