Representing, alluding to, abstracting from, symbolizing, referring to the human body--especially the female body--is a main source of ideas for me. I have in the past fought this need, choosing instead to hide the figure in a whelter of abstract shapes. Gradually, though, my work has changed, and now l combine abstract shapes with more obviously representational ones.
In the painting in this exhibit, the "chick" (not one of my favorite terms for females) swings atop a fanciful rendition of a skirt. The lower section of the painting can be seen as an abstract depiction of a vagina having a lot of fun. I had fun making this, too.
