Dear friends
I want to invite you to participate in the project “Pockets of Memory” a collective artwork made out of pockets crafted by many women from different countries and traditions. The final result will be a dress that will be shown on August 2nd at The “Qoricancha Temple” in Cuzco, Peru as part of my next art show Dresses Memory of the Earth.

Qoricancha was an Incan place of Worship supreme beings, among them the God Wiracocha, the Sun, the Moon and Stars and the Pachamama (mother earth). When you are there you can feel the presence of the stones and light of the sun or moon at different times of the day. This temple is not the original one, it has been rebuilt by Spaniards during and after the conquest, now it is a Catholic Church (Santo Domingo) and also Qoricancha, an Inca Temple. When I was there I felt the energy of conflict living in this place and the need for reconciliation through our roots and love.
Having the opportunity to show my work at this temple had opened to me the possibility to connect our personal roots and ancestors to our collective memory as women and human beings part of nature.
Think of your mother, father, your grandmother, grandfather, etc… What are the images that come to your mind? What do you share with them?
What are the things that you want to keep? Put them in an imaginary pocket. What will be its texture, its color, and its size? Will it be open or closed? Will it be a recycled pocket? Will it be a quilted pocket? Will you use some pictures? What will you do if you don't know how to sew? There are infinite possibilities. Use those images and your family traditions to translate your memories and feelings into a pocket.
Please let your heart lead your hands in the making of your pocket and send a picture of your pocket before april 15th to susanaragonr@yahoo.com with your name and place of birth. I'll be publishing it on www.memorypockets.blogspot.com.
Hope you can be part of this project!
