Second Annual New Century Peoples Choice Awards

WHAT is IT????____________
The New Century People's Choice Awards was created to recognize indie
talent in NYC. Created by veteran downtown booker Mike McHugh in 2004,
who has been called "the guts and the glue of downtown music scene" by
Suzanne Vega and has "an ear for talent" according to the late John
Hammond Sr., Mike currently books with NYC Gigs for The Knitting
Factory, The Village Underground and independently for Wicked Willys,
Gizzi's Coffee,and is known for his Women in Music showcases. The live
awards segment is now into it's second year as a showcase, formally
recognizing winners and nominees in music and video categories! The
event kicks off promptly at 7 pm featuring a full band set by David
Belmont Wind Water Ensemble and ends with funky house dj set spun by
The Tom Glide Space. A full range of music from the downtown New York
scene is represented including jazz,rock,folk,rap,spoken word and
more.
Online voting leads up to the awards show where you have a chance to
vote between an eclectic mix of indie and mainstream acts! (Last year
The Blisstones beat out The New York Dolls for Best Modern Rock song!)
The criteria is that any act that has not had a Top 100 Billboard
charted song is eligible. The nominees are in for this year and the
voting will begin mid - March and will close March 30th. A great
blend of indie and mainstream artists, it really is the people's
choice! Nominess and winners will be interviewed at random by Red
Carpet Live with Lisa Levy! Some of last years interviewees can be
