Kelly Thompson, an avid and adventurous painter has teamed up with photographer Susan Weber, known for her 'Flip Flop Photos' to cultivate an intriguing body of work. Weber has a remarkable eye for compelling compositions. Thompson, a longtime fan of Weber's work has selected various images to create paintings based on themes or sections of the photographs. Paired together these image combos initiate a dynamic dialog between interpretation and medium.

This project started with me calling Susan one night, frustrated and wanting to paint but drawing a blank on what to paint. She being a good friend came over right a way with some photos and saved me. Since then she and I have chosen photos as inspiration for me and she has photographed work inspired by a couple of my paintings as well. We love and respect each other's art and are proud to have produced these works together. Letting our imaginations run free with this show and the diversity of each piece is I think what makes this show completely unique and exciting. Susan and I have had a great time with this collaboration. We hope you enjoy it!
Kelly was born and raised in Northwest Indiana and attended classes at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. She began her art career working as a graphic artist in Chicago, then relocated to Los Angeles, where she honed her artistic painting skills as a motion picture scenic artist. More recently one of her paintings was used on the television show Starting Over. For the past five years, Kelly has devoted herself full-time to studio painting. Her art draws on the widely diverse techniques and styles she has learned over the years, along with her enthusiasm for artistic experimentation and exploration. Kelly's recent work has been a series of vibrantly colored abstract landscapes inspired by coastal California and urban Los Angeles and a series of commissions with an Asian landscape theme.
Susan C. Weber
I was educated to become a graphic designer and although I have always had interest in photojournalism, it wasn't until I moved to Los Angeles that I became really enthusiastic about photography. To make pictures, I use digital cameras and computer software and a quote, from Mark Twain which has been my inspiration in the pursuit of the extraordinary. "You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus."
