AMP Member of the Week Phil Moncuse spent the majority of his first twenty-nine years in Brewster, New York. From an early age, design of both natural and synthetic objects became a focal point of his artistic exploration and the source of inspiration for the study of art. He was granted a B.A. in Studio Art from the State University of New York at Oneonta, N.Y. After working for over twenty years in the design of printed circuitry, he is returning to his primary interest - the visual arts. His approach to the representation of an image is similar to a composer’s approach to writing music. Phil seeks to selectively refine an image into one where only that which is necessary for the composition is present. He has sculpted in steel, bronze, and wood, and has painted with acrylic on canvas in the hardedge technique. Phil is interested in exploring the Precisionist movement, and believes that painting and sculpture are still valid in this digital age.
“I believe we are all here to learn and with that in mind, I am constantly more aware of the design present all around us.” Phil Moncuse
