Open call for 2026–27 projects at Flux IV: Flux Factory invites artists, curators, organizers, collectives, and cross-disciplinary thinkers to share ideas for projects at Flux IV, our new venue at 56-21 2nd Street, Hunters Point South.
Flux Factory’s mission is to support emerging artists through Artist-in-Residencies and Exhibitions, education and collaborative opportunities. Flux is an artist-led space that builds sustainable communities and retains creative vitality in NYC. Since 1994 Flux has hosted over 400 Artists-in-Residence, both local and international, as well as staging over 700 exhibitions across all disciplines. Flux’s home in Long Island City is a creative hive that incubates experimentation with collaborative processes. Flux annually hosts over 75 annual multidisciplinary events; all are free to the public while all participating artists are compensated.
Projects can take the form of exhibitions, performances, events, or research-driven work. We’re interested in proposals that build relationships with our new neighborhood, its local communities and ecologies, and the Flux artist collective.
Flux Factory supports emerging artists and culture workers across disciplines and invites them to join its collaborative artist collective. Applicants selected through this Open Call become part of an active international community of more than 500 artists and culture workers connected to Flux, with opportunities to participate in gatherings, pop-up events, and funded regional and international exchanges and residencies.
Projects are selected through a panel process with a jury of current Flux community members. In addition to the proposed project, the review considers the applicant’s practice and past work, and how they might contribute to, and grow within, the Flux community.
This open call begins with a short Letter of Inquiry (LOI). It’s a simple way to introduce yourself and your project idea and begin a conversation with us, rather than submitting a full proposal at this stage.
We ask for a brief written description of your idea, a few sentences about how you imagine working at Flux IV, and a link to a website, portfolio, or CV—no budgets, renderings, or other supporting materials are required.
Applicants invited to the second phase will develop a more detailed proposal in conversation with Flux staff and in relation to specific opportunities within Flux IV’s programs.
Timeline
LOI Deadline: April 15. Notification of LOI Status: spring 2026. Full proposals will be developed on a per-project basis through the spring–fall 2026 in consultation with staff Project Period: fall 2026–27
Even if you are unsure whether your idea fits, you are encouraged to submit an LOI. Applicants may submit a maximum of three proposals. Once you submit your proposal, you will receive a confirmation email which will allow you to modify your project or add projects until the deadline closes.
Flux Factory can be a venue, resource, and community for the work you are developing, and this open call is an invitation to experiment with us as Flux IV and its programs evolve in their early years.
