All of us at Artis wish you a happy, healthy, and peaceful New Year. We are delighted to begin the year with an open call for artists to apply for 10 fully funded residencies organized in partnership with 6 international residency programs. The deadline to submit applications is February 9, and details are included below.

We are thinking of our dear friends in Los Angeles - artists, supporters, colleagues, residency and museum partners - who have been impacted by the fires. As we continue to process, learn, and repair, we are grateful to be in community together. We hope for calmer, better days ahead.

Open Call for Fully Funded Residencies

Application Period: January 10–February 9, 2025. A summary of this call information is available in Hebrew here. An information session will be held in-person on Monday, January 27 at 11.00am in Tel Aviv. Artists interested in applying are welcome to attend. Email us here to RSVP and for details.

Artis is pleased to announce its annual open call for emerging, mid-career, and established visual artists from Israel to apply for fully funded residency programs at six international partner institutions in New York, Los Angeles, York, Maine, and Berlin.

Residencies are organized through the Artis Residency Partnership Initiative, which creates open, nuanced dialogue and valuable exchanges in shared residency spaces. Artis is committed to ensuring artist-centered opportunities and transformative experiences for artists from Israel. We work with artists who ask critical questions and explore complex narratives in thoughtful, new ways. Our residency review process is informed by Artis’ mission, values, and a belief in the importance of freedom of speech and artistic expression. All applicants will be considered regardless of race, religion, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identification, or additional national identity.

Artis is delighted to partner with the following institutions:

International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), Brooklyn, NY

Residency Unlimited (RU), Brooklyn, NY

18th Street Arts Center, Los Angeles, CA

Blue Roof, Los Angeles, CA

Surf Point, York, Maine

Berlin Art Institute (BAI), Berlin, Germany

Residency locations vary from urban environs to retreat-style programs, with artists matched to residencies based on individual application details, availability, and interests. Residency lengths vary from three weeks to three months, with an average tenure of two months. Residency start and end dates are predetermined by the host institution and Artis, and cannot be changed. Details about each residency opportunity and program dates are in the application. Applying artists are invited to select up to four programs/dates that they would like to be considered for.

If selected, artists receive studio and residency support free of cost and travel grants toward round-trip travel to/from their residencies. Limited stipends to offset living expenses are available for a limited number of the residencies. Artists are responsible for booking travel and securing housing where residency does not provide a live/work space, as well as meals, art materials, and other associated planning costs. Artists in residence will be welcomed into vibrant art communities at host locations, and have access to professional development opportunities that may range from meetings with curators to open studio events, public programs, and visits to nearby art institutions.

Eligibility

Residency Partnership Initiative grants are awarded to visual artists from Israel, who may be living anywhere in the world. Applicants must have at least two years of professional experience following completion of a degree program and demonstrate their ongoing and active commitment to an arts practice. Strong applications will describe why an international residency will support the applicant’s practice and professional growth. We value the role of collaboration and community in residency experiences, and applicants should be prepared to speak about their role in contributing to an art community at a residency institution. Applicants must be able to travel internationally to participate in-person and commit to spending a minimum of 20 hours a week toward work that is part of the residency. Artis is particularly interested in receiving applications from artists who have not received Artis grants within the past three years.

Application Process & Timeline

Artis welcomes applications from January 10 through February 9, 2025. Before applying, please review the program details, eligibility requirements, and previous artist recipients.

Applicants will be notified of the status of their application by May 2025. Final decisions of artist residency placements will be made by each partner residency in consultation with Artis.
