Application deadline: September 16, 2024
Phileas—The Austrian Office for Contemporary Art invites museums, biennials and art institutions around the world to apply for funding support for projects in 2025.
Our mission is to support artists, curators, galleries and institutions in Austria and strengthen their presence on the international landscape of contemporary art, enabling the production and exhibition of new artworks and their donation to public collections.
Since 2014 we have supported over 100 exhibition and publication projects worldwide. This is done through an application-based process. The application deadline for funding collaborations in 2025 is Monday 16 September 2024.
The criteria for application are as follows
–Projects should present the work of Austrian or Austria-based artists;
–Applications should be submitted by museums, biennials and other non-commercial institutions located outside Austria;
–Applications should be submitted in English and include all information requested in the application form.
The application form, the criteria for selection of projects, and more details can be found on our website at phileas.art/grants
Phileas was founded in Vienna in 2014 as an independent philanthropic organisation funded by the contributions of private members. In 2023 we formed a partnership with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport to create a new organisation named Phileas—The Austrian Office for Contemporary Art.
We publish an annual series of artist monographs and maintain an Artist Library of exhibition catalogues and portfolios available for research and consultation at our office in Vienna. We support the Austrian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale through a combination of fundraising, publishing and historical research, and are commissioners of the first Austrian Pavilion at the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea, in 2024. To complement these activities, we run an active Visitor Programme that invites international curators and critics to Austria throughout the year to visit artists’ studios, galleries, museums and artist-run spaces.
