SAHA is pleased to announce opportunities for international art institutions that would like to collaborate with artists and curators from Turkey in 2024–2025. Since 2011, SAHA conceives grant schemes geared towards international non-profit art institutions, such as museums, biennials, and art institutes, etc. that can submit applications to SAHA for the funding of exhibitions and projects of artists and curators from Turkey. SAHA’s grant scheme prioritizes production costs of artworks and artist publications so the grants cannot be allocated for other items, such as shipping, travel, accommodation, installation, marketing, etc. Although there is no outlined application period for SAHA’s grant scheme, applications would be accepted continuously on the condition that they are made a minimum of 6 months prior to the date of the opening of the exhibition or project for which the grant is requested.
In 12 years, SAHA has supported projects by approximately 600 different artists, curators, and art writers in partnership with 220 non-profit institutions in 46 different countries. Beyond its commitment as a grant-giving organization, SAHA builds partnerships with international art institutions, e.g. Artis, Artworks, CIMAM, Delfina Foundation, ISCP New York, MORPHO, Rijksakademie, Slavs and Tatars Residency, and The Alternative Art School for residency and research programs. SAHA also supports the local ecosystem by collaborating with the biennials in Turkey whilst running its own programs, namely SAHA Studio and SAHA Residency founded in Istanbul for artists and curators; SAHA Art Writing Series developed with writers and art critics; and SAHA Sustainability Funds that support independent art initiatives and collectives in different regions of Turkey.
A selection of ongoing exhibitions and projects supported by SAHA
Hera Büyüktaşcıyan, Tate St Ives, United Kingdom
Following Hera Büyüktaşcıyan’s residency with Tate St Ives in collaboration with SAHA, her solo exhibition Earthbound Whisperers is on view until October 15, 2023. Büyüktaşçıyan’s work explores parallels between mythical women, who were petrified as punishment for singing and dancing on the Sabbath and the female workforces of St Ives textile factories in the mid-twentieth century. A version of this installation was exhibited at the 14th Gwangju Biennale in 2023, also with SAHA’s production support.
Nasan Tur, Berlinische Galerie, Germany
Artist Nasan Tur’s solo exhibition Hunted at the Berlinische Galerie presents new works that address the exercise of power and rationales for its legitimation until January 4, 2024. The visual impact of Tur’s spatial arrangement conveys ambivalent attitudes to death and life. SAHA provides publication support for Nasan Tur’s bilingual exhibition book to be launched by a conversation and a performance on September 16, 2023.
Buşra Tunç and Kerem Ozan Bayraktar, Tokyo Biennale, Japan
SAHA supports Büşra Tunç and Kerem Ozan Bayraktar’s participation in the Tokyo Biennale between September 23 and November 5, 2023. Directed by Masato Nakamura and Min Nishihara, Create Linkage aims to capture the “linkages” between us and our surroundings. The two artists from Turkey were commissioned a multimedia installation that examines the elements of the urban ecosystem through the lens of garden aesthetics.
Gülsün Karamustafa, Kunsthalle Wien, Austria
SAHA supports Gülsün Karamustafa’s project Crime Scene at Kunsthalle Wien until January 28, 2024. No Feeling Is Final: The Skopje Solidarity Collection presents the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje, its historical and political context in which such an unusual project was possible. Gülsün Karamustafa is amongst international artists invited to the exhibition that will travel to National Gallery of Prague and to MoCA Skopjethroughout the year 2024. Also in 2024, Gülsün Karamustafa will represent Turkey at the 60th Venice Biennale with SAHA’s support.
