The Helga de Alvear Foundation opens the period to submit applications for the position of Director of the Helga de Alvear Museum (Cáceres, Spain). The rules of the competition, which were approved by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees on September 27, 2022, have been officially published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura on November 4 (and can be consulted on the museum’s own website.
The selection process is carried out through an international public contest and the selected person will occupy the artistic and executive direction of the institution for a period of four years. The deadline for submitting applications is two working months, counted from the day following the date of publication of the bases of the Call in the Official Gazette of Extremadura.
Among the functions of the appointed position are that of assuming the artistic, research, artistic heritage, communication and educational direction of the Helga de Alvear Museum, establishing and executing the Foundation’s Action Plan for each financial year and being responsible for the administrative, economic-budgetary and technical management of the Foundation, among others.
Applicants must prove curatorial or management experience of at least five years in positions of similar skills and responsibilities in museums or art institutions and present a Management Project for the Helga de Alvear Museum that covers the next four years.
The Evaluation Commission that will evaluate who is the ideal person to direct the Museum is chaired by Helga de Alvear and made up of Manuel Borja-Villel, Director of the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, Madrid; Udo Kittelmann, Artistic Director of the Frieder Burda Museum, in Baden-Baden; Ute Meta Bauer, Director of the NTU Center for Contemporary Art in Singapore; Nuria Enguita, Director of the Valencian Institute of Modern Art, from Valencia; Mercedes Roldán Sánchez, Deputy Director General of State Museums of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Government of Spain and Ana Jiménez del Moral, Art Technician, of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Junta de Extremadura, acting as secretary María Jesús Ávila, Coordinator of the Helga de Alvear Museum.
The Museum of Contemporary Art Helga de Alvear in Cáceres, Spain, designed by award-winning Tuñón Arquitectos Studio, was created to house Spain’s most significant private collection of international contemporary art developed over 40 years by the leading gallerist and collector, Helga de Alvear. With over 3,000 works, the Collection includes pieces by Tacita Dean, Louise Bourgeois, Olafur Eliasson, Ai Weiwei or Wassily Kandinsky among others.
