AMP's Member of the Week Karen Fuhrman (karenfuhr) is a very special kind of aerialist. Check out the attached flyer to see a picture of it, and see just how wild it is. She studied dance, theater, and voice while earning her BFA from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. She also received her MA from New York University with an emphasis on Choreography and Higher Education. She specializes in aerial dance theater that utilizes harnesses and apparatus-based movement. Her recent performance credits include Cavalia, De La Guarda in New York’s Daryl Roth Theater, the MOMIX dance company’s U.S. and European tours, MOMIX in Orbit, New York Stage Original's DREAM, Ballet Sh’ma at the 92nd Street Y in New York, and the Fourth Dimension Dance Company in the Seoul Opera House, Korea. She has also collaborated with the famed San Francisco-based aerial company Project Bandaloop. While on tour with MOMIX she contributed choreography for the FIAT Auto Centennial celebration in Torino, Italy and she has performed in many other venues throughout the U.S. including the Bryant Park Armory, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Hammerstein Ballroom (with the jazz/fusion band Medeski, Martin, and Wood), The Lime Light, Frederick Lowe Theater, Webster Hall, along with appearances on the VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, MTV, PBS, ABC, and SHOWTIME. Her choreography with her own aerial dance theater company, XYandZ, has also been presented in conjunction with the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Dance Mission in San Francisco, benefit events in Truckee and Squaw Valley CA, the White Wave/dumbo Dance Festival, Asymmetry Dance, and the Washington Square Dance Company. Currently, she is performing/freelancing with the modern dance company Pilobolus.
