Henie Onstad Kunstsenter is an arena for Norwegian and international art, with a varied exhibition program spanning from modernism and avant-garde to contemporary art. Henie Onstad, which opened in 1968, houses a collection of more than 8,000 works and was Norway’s first privately financed contemporary art center. It has been an important supporter of new forms of artistic expression ever since and has an extensive music, dance and performance program. Diversity and equality are promoted at all levels within the organisation.

Henie Onstad has an extraordinary art collection and an exhibition program with international ambitions. The art center has embarked on an exciting stage in its development, with many significant projects currently underway. The institution is seeking a new director to lead the center’s progress towards its new ambitious goals.

The new director of Henie Onstad should have a passion for art and culture, and a desire to contribute to the further development of the collection and the exhibition program. The center’s new leader should be visionary and proactive, has a natural talent for building relationships and also has good commercial sense.

The right candidate is committed to preserving the history of Henie Onstad and seeks to enhance the center’s position as an attractive destination for art, culture and recreation. This requires an understanding of the center’s visitors and the programming that will appeal to a large audience, as well as an eye for the strategic opportunities afforded by the center’s fantastic location.

The candidate will have relevant leadership experience and a strong art historical background. A knowledge of and interest in public-private financing is an advantage.
