The Museum Ludwig in Cologne is looking for a curator of art of the 20th and 21st centuries to start work on March 1, 2022. The post includes looking after the museum’s collection of prints and drawings (Graphics Collection).

The Museum Ludwig is one of Europe’s most important museums of modern and contemporary art, and a leading institution internationally, with a collection focusing on classical modernism, the Russian avant-garde, Pablo Picasso, and Pop Art, as well as contemporary art and photography. In its acquisitions, exhibitions, projects, and initiatives, the Museum fosters a diversity of voices and mutual respect as the basis of a democratic society. Since the museum also seeks to increase diversity among its staff, people with personal or family histories of migration, and in particular people of color, are explicitly encouraged to apply.

Job description
–You will develop temporary exhibitions, presentations of works from the Museum’s collection, and other projects on current themes in art and society.
–You will supervise the Museum’s collection of prints and drawings, including maintenance in cooperation with the departments of restoration, administration, and documentation.
–You will help to expand the Museum’s collection by suggesting acquisitions (purchases, donations).
–You will organize the loaning of works.

Required qualifications
–You have completed a course of studies (masters degree or university diploma) in art history, art theory, cultural studies, curatorial studies, museology, or a comparable subject.
–Documented experience with themes including migration, post-colonialism and gender.

Required skills
–Excellent knowledge of 20th-century and contemporary art
–International network in the field of 20th-century and contemporary art
–Good command of German and English (both written and spoken)
–Intercultural competence
–Experience in the field of prints and drawings
–Excellent organization and communication skills
–Ability to perform well under pressure
–Confidence when working in-house and with external partners
–High degree of reliability

Terms of employment
–The pay grade for this position is Group 13, Case 1 TVöD (assigned in accordance with the regulations laid down in Germany’s civil service pay scale)
–Regular working hours: 39 hours per week

Please note: due to the nature of the work in question, flexible working hours apply in line with municipal regulations (this may mean working evenings and weekends) and, where necessary, outside of regular working hours.
