Gallery applications are open for The Armory Show 2022, featuring curators Carla Acevedo-Yates, Tobias Ostrander, and Mari Carmen Ramírez, who will bring a distinct, unified Latin American and Latinx perspective to the fair’s three curatorial initiatives.

Carla Acevedo-Yates, Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator at MCA Chicago, will curate the Focus section; Tobias Ostrander, Estrellita B. Brodsky Adjunct Curator, Latin American Art at Tate, London, will curate the Platform section; and Mari Carmen Ramírez, Wortham Curator of Latin American Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, will chair the fifth annual Curatorial Leadership Summit.

Held at the Javits Center next September 9–11, with a VIP Preview Day on Thursday, September 8, the fair returns to the heart of Manhattan, marking nearly three decades as New York’s Art Fair for modern and contemporary art.

The Armory Show 2022 will host five distinct exhibitor sections at the Javits Center, as well as Armory Off-Site, an initiative begun in 2021 that brings art to New York City's most iconic public spaces and parks. Exhibitor sections for 2022 are below:

Galleries: core presentations
Leading international galleries present outstanding 20th and 21st-century artworks across a range of media.

Focus: curated presentations
Curated by Carla Acevedo-Yates, Focus will be dedicated to solo- and dual-artist presentations that examine the intersectionality of issues surrounding the environment, focusing on personal and political climates as they interact with race and gender. Encompassing artists that foreground South-South ecologies, the section will introduce a transcultural conversation around art production grounded on abstract, representational, and conceptual approaches.

Platform: large-scale and site-specific presentations
Curated by Tobias Ostrander, Platform will be dedicated to large-scale installations and site-specific works under the theme of Monumental Change. The section will examine how recent revisionist practices, which are part of dramatic cultural shifts occurring throughout the world, are influencing artists’ engagement with sculptural form. It asks: What subjects might we collectively look to commemorate now? With which materials? And in what form?

Presents: young gallery presentations
Galleries no more than ten years old showcase recent work through solo- and dual-artist presentations. Applying galleries must be founded after September 2012 and proposed artworks less than three years old.

Solo: single artist presentations
In Solo, intimate presentations focus on the work of a single emerging, established, or historic artist working in the 20th or 21st century.

Armory Off-Site: public art projects
Expands the reach of The Armory Show by bringing public art to prominent locations around New York City prior to, during, and/ or after the 2022 fair, introducing leading international artists to a wider audience and inspiring dialogues around art.

Curatorial Leadership Summit
Under Mari Carmen Ramírez's leadership, the program will welcome curators from around the world to a day-long, invitation-only symposium focusing on the differences and affinities between Latin American and/or Latinx art. Following the program will be a public discussion on issues around similar themes.
