Established in 1971, the Contemporary Art Gallery (CAG) is the longest standing free public art gallery in Vancouver dedicated exclusively to presenting contemporary art. Led by a committee of past and present Board Directors, and including distinguished Vancouver-based artists, CAG is now seeking a new Executive Director.
Approaching its 50th anniversary in 2021, CAG is poised at an exciting moment in its evolution as the Board seeks to appoint an outstanding new Executive Director who will build on our successful legacy. Working within CAG’s strategic plan and priorities, the Executive Director will lead the organization’s artistic vision, initiate and shape fundraising campaigns, and define a future-facing vision and direction for the organization that will ensure its continuing growth and wider reach for generations to come.
CAG is dedicated to the research, exhibition, education and documentation of contemporary visual art as it is practiced locally through to internationally. It aspires to generate significant audiences for its innovative and diverse program through free access and a profile that is international in scope. The appointee will continue in leading CAG’s strong programming, across ambitious exhibitions, off-site projects and partnerships, alongside its deep commitment to dynamic ongoing public programs and learning experiences that inspire engagement at all levels and connect to diverse audiences.
Perhaps most vitally, the Executive Director will closely align with the mission and values of CAG, with a genuine passion for the promotion of diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusivity in contemporary visual art. Given CAG’s public role and its context in Canada, it strives for and continues to work toward representation of all peoples throughout the organization and programming. With gratitude as guests, CAG acknowledges that the land on which it operates is the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Səli̓ ́ lwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
CAG is partnering with the executive search firm Perrett Laver on this search process.
