DESCRIPTION
HUB-Robeson Galleries, invites applications for a Visual Arts Production Specialist to oversee the production of new media and audio/visual exhibitions and assist with the creation and implementation of marketing strategies. The Production Specialist works closely with the exhibition coordinator and reports to the Curator, Senior Gallery Manager. Assists and ensures compliance with proper venue requirements for site-specific and digital media installations. Leads art handling during exhibition changeovers and occasional travels for the pick-up and delivery of work. Oversees social content and produces or coordinates the production of graphics and messaging for social platforms. May assist with writing of and the production of print materials in coordination with Student Affairs Communications and Marketing. The Visual Arts Production Specialist will co-supervise student gallery assistants. Works with colleagues across the University to develop compelling storylines for media and uphold brand and strategic communications standards. Will serve on department wide committees on a periodic basis and contribute to the HUB-Robeson Center and Student Affairs by participation in meetings, development opportunities, etc. The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for contemporary art, museums/galleries, student engagement, and expertise in new media and installation art. They should be facile with print, environmental and screen-based design and digital platforms, and be dexterous creatively and professionally. They will have a strong understanding of best practices of each channel. The Pennsylvania State University, HUB-Robeson Center, boasts two spaces, HUB Gallery and Art Alley, focused on engaging students, faculty, and staff with the art of our time. The galleries’ programs, including exhibitions in five display cases throughout the high-traffic building, emphasize cross-disciplinary and new approaches that encourage discovery and understanding, utilizing the arts as agents of change in addressing complex global issues. As a center of University community life, the HUB-Robeson Center complements the academic experience by offering students opportunities in leadership, social responsibility, citizenship, volunteerism, and student employment. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience with exhibition production and graphic design. Strong understanding of basic best practices of each channel, and a creative and organized approach to content creation and campaign management. Excellent skills in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and photography. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Operating and trouble-shooting equipment, projectors, computers, photo and video editing, knowledge of computer operation, art handling, comfort using ladders, working knowledge of new media practices and display technologies. Review of applications begins November 21st. This is a fixed-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with excellent possibility of re-funding.
