From July 10 to November 9, miart – Milan’s international fair of modern and contemporary art invites international exhibitors to apply for its 24th edition.

For the third consecutive year under the artistic directorship of Alessandro Rabottini, miart will once again be the catalyst for the Milan Art Week, an intense program of special events and openings designed in collaboration with the major public and private institutions in the city. Organized in conjunction with the Municipality of Milan, in 2018 the Milan Art Week gathered together established exhibition spaces such as Pirelli HangarBicocca, Fondazione Prada Milano, Triennale, Fondazione Trussardi, Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento, FAI, Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Galleria d’Arte Moderna, FM Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea, Fondazione Furla, and Fondazione Carriero, to name a few.

Bringing together modern art, contemporary positions, and limited edition design, miart fosters unexpected dialogues between post-war masters, emerging talents, and designers. Through its main sections—Established Contemporary, Established Masters, Emergent and Object—miart aims at presenting the broadest chronological offering in Italy, from the art of the beginning of the last century to works of the most recent generations.

Alongside a strong selection of international contemporary art galleries, a great emphasis is put on historical works within the sections Established Masters and Decades. Both are curated by Alberto Salvadori with an equal focus on blending seminal pieces by post-war masters with artistic positions that have been overlooked in the past.

The dialogue between artists from different historical backgrounds takes the central stage via the curated section Generations, this year devised by Anthony Reynolds (Anthony Reynolds Gallery, London) and Chris Sharp (Writer, Independent Curator and Co-director of Lulu, Mexico City) as an inspiring platform for the exploration of how much history and the present time are interwoven.

London-based Independent Curator Attilia Fattori Franchini is in charge for the second year of coordinating the section Emergent, a fresh selection of 20 international young galleries showcasing the most recent experimentations from emerging artists.

miart 2019 will also see new challenging projects brought by the section On Demand, a cross-cutting section showcasing context-based art: site-specific works such as installations and wall paintings, projects to be executed, commissions, performances and so on; or works where the audience and the collector play an active role. On Demand is curated by Oda Albera in her role of Exhibitors Liaison and Special Projects Curator.

Contemporary limited edition design objects and important pieces of modern furniture and decorative arts are at the core of Object. This section gathers a carefully selected number of international design galleries in the context of modern and contemporary art, right on the eve of the opening of the Salone del Mobile. Once again, Object is curated by design critic and journalist Hugo Macdonald.
