Deadline for Submissions:
12 Midnight GMT on 12 March 2018
The Art House and ROSL Arts are seeking proposals from visual artists who would like to take up a two-month residency at the Art House's purpose-built studios in Wakefield during September and October 2018.
The opportunity is intended to support the artistic and professional development of two early to mid-career artists, who will have a shared studio space for the duration of the residency. The callout is open to artists living and working in commonwealth or former commonwealth countries (with documentary proof such as a passport or birth certificate) who have not yet exhibited or studied in the UK.
The residency offers:
· Fully covered travel costs
· Fully covered visa costs
· Living costs covered with a per diem
· Free studio space in the Art House (6.7m by 9m)
· Free accommodation in the Art House flat
· Free access to a fully equipped print studio with screen print, etching and laser cutter
· The services of a support technician if needed, as part of our commitment to equality
· An opportunity to show either a new body of work created during the residency, or work in progress, in a studio context in the Art House and potentially at a UK or International Art Fair.
· The opportunity to share your practice and residency through a residency blog, participate in artist's talks, and if appropriate to run workshops relating to your practice
· Coaching and mentoring through 1-2-1 sessions with our team to support artists to develop their critical understanding of their artistic practice, marketing, and develop audiences for their work (we will look at artists' support needs at the start of the residency and put together a package of support).
· A funded visit to ROSL London and opportunity to see the art scene of the capital over Frieze week
We welcome proposals from artists working in all types of contemporary visual art practice, including photography, new media, fine art, artists' moving image, live art, crafts, design, architecture, site-specific, socially engaged and interdisciplinary practices.
If you are successful then an initial conversation will explore your aspirations for this programme, and what other support may be needed and available from the Art House, ROSL Arts and their partners/associates. We are happy to discuss flexibility if any aspect of the offer needs adapting to suit your needs.
The Art House and ROSL Arts are committed to developing and supporting contemporary art practice and critical debate around it. We are accepting proposals from artists at all stages of their development, and are particularly interested in artists who want to experiment, innovate and extend their practice.
