Launching in New York for the first time, the Frieze Artist Award is an international open call for an emerging artist to realize a major site-specific work at Frieze Art Fair. Applications are now being accepted for Frieze New York 2018 through December 11, 2017, at 5pm EST.
Forming part of the fair’s non-profit programme, the Frieze Artist Award is supported by the LUMA Foundation.
Frieze welcomes proposals for new, ambitious and site-specific works that respond to the dynamics of the New York fair in Randall’s Island Park. The Award includes a budget of up to 30,000 USD for production, research and development, artist fees and travel expenses. Applicants will be judged on the innovative nature of their idea and its potential for realization.
Proposals will be reviewed by a selection panel of prominent artists and curators (TBA); and the winner will be announced in February 2018. Frieze New York will take place in May 2018.
The launch of the Artist Award in New York follows an established program of Artist Award commissions at Frieze London.
The 2017 Frieze Artist Award winner (London) was Kiluanji Kia Henda, whose two-part installation took the cult of Marxism-Leninism in Angola as its starting point. Previous award winners in London include Yuri Pattison (2016), Rachel Rose (2015) and Mélanie Matranga (2014). Explore all projects here.
