Dear all,
As you may know, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs launched our Public Artists in Residence (PAIR) program in 2015, and I’ve been co-directing the program with my colleague Shirley Levy ever since. Based on the idea that artists are creative problem solvers, this municipal residency program embeds artists in city government to use creative, collaborative practice to address pressing civic challenges. We’ve done five residencies thus far (some still ongoing), including with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (Tania Bruguera), Department of Veterans’ Services (Bryan Doerries/Theater of War), and Administration for Children’s Services (The Lost Collective).
I’m excited to let you know that we just released three open calls for artists for the next round of PAIR, for 2018. We’re seeking Public Artists in Residence for:
NYC Department of Correction (Rikers Island)
NYC Department of Probation
NYC Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence
There’s more information on our website here. http://www1.nyc.gov/site/dcla/publicart/pair.page And even more on the applications here. https://nyculture.submittable.com/submit
The residencies are one year (Jan 2018 – Dec 31, 2018), open ended, and for socially engaged artists working in any media. This will be challenging, but necessary work.
Please share with any NYC-based artists you think would be interested and qualified. The deadline to apply is November 12, 2017. Feel free to reach out to me with questions or suggestions.
Thank you!
