For this year’s Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) Martha Naranjo Sandoval will be taking over FluxFactory’s gallery to build and present an ofrenda. Ofrendas are altars in which Mexicans remember our deceased loved ones. This ofrenda will be different from the traditional form, as it will be interpreted through Martha Naranjo Sandoval’s art practice. As is tradition however, it will offer our community an opportunity to remember our loved ones who have passed, and celebrate their life.

Martha will be printing photographs of those we would like to honor on rice paper to make papel picado. This is a community ofrenda, which means that anyone who is interested in having their loved ones remembered is invited.

We are deeply moved and in grief with all of the natural disasters happening right now. We would to like invite anyone affected to let us honor their lost loved ones.

You can visit the Ofrenda from November 1st – November 5th

November 2nd will be a day for us to gather, celebrate and pay our respects to our beloved dead

If you would like to include your loved ones, please send the following to martha@mnaranjosandoval.net with the subject “OFRENDA SUBMISSION”:

At least one photograph of your loved one, good enough for printing at 13 in x 19 in. If you are not sure you can print it at that size or you have a smaller one, send whatever you have. Try to think in pictures that represent the way they’d want to be remembered.

The complete name of the person and nickname if any.

Date of birth and the date they left us (if known).

A sentence saying a thing they would like to be remembered for.

Please submit materials by Friday, October 15th
