ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP:

Artists and other creative professionals are encouraged to apply with ideas for projects that expand their practice beyond its traditional boundaries. The Fellowship for Utopian Practice is a process-based fellowship, and Culture Push will help Fellows develop big ideas that have real world applications.

We are looking for highly interactive projects that engage the public and push the boundaries of how art can exist in the world. The Fellows will have a year-long tenure

"Without Culture Push, this project may not have been a reality because it fits outside of the scope of traditional dance (and therefore is often difficult for funders to define). Culture Push gave this project, well, a push, and the ripple effect of that impact is still resonating."

-Sarah Dahnke, Dances for Solidarity

This is the fifth year of the Fellowship for Utopian Practice. The Fellowship was started in 2012 and provides an opportunity for artists and other professionals to experiment with new forms of civic and social engagement. In the past five years Culture Push has supported twenty-six projects that explore many different subjects, such as: the complex relationship between Dominicans and Haitians, the legacy of Black female authors, the architecture of civil resistance, choreography as a tool for creating solidarity with incarcerated individuals, public access and redesign of NYC waterways, and accessible forms of sustainability.
