Open call for a socially engaged commission with Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane and Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts in Ireland, as part of the Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme funded by Creative Europe.

Commission budget: 50,000 EUR
Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane and Create the national development agency for collaborative arts in Ireland, are delighted to announce this major opportunity for a collaborative artist(s) to research and deliver a major new commission for Spring 2018. This commission will run from 2017 into 2018 and sets out to encourage meaningful and in depth engagement with communities of place and of interest as well as the distinct architectural, socio-political and cultural landscape of the North Inner City of Dublin. The commission will focus on collaborative socially engaged arts practice and is open to artists and / or arts collectives born in or resident in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Finland, Hungary or Germany, (partner countries within the Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme).
The commission process will include a research period with the opportunity to develop a new work in collaboration with local and new communities in the surrounding area/ neighbourhood where Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane is located. The commission is in two phases Research and Development Strand March/April/May 2017 and Production June 2017–June 2018.
Artists should have a track record and experience of working in the field of collaborative socially engaged practice. They should also demonstrate the ability to connect to and read the complexities of the local area. We particularly welcome proposals which consider diverse ways to engage with both community and audience.
Application process
Individual artists or artist collectives are invited to submit their proposals to Create at info@create-ireland.ie by 5pm GMT on January 27, 2017 applications received after this date will not be accepted.
Proposals must include an up to date CV, biography and artistic statement of not more than 1,500 words describing the following:
–Artistic motivation: experience in collaborative socially engaged practice, theoretical framework and approach to the commission
–Local context: how will your project navigate and situate itself within the local context of the North Inner City, Hugh Lane area. What strategies for engagement do you envisage?
–Research and implementation: set out a plan and timetable for how you will research
and execute the commission
–Proposed budget breakdown: allocation of fees, expenses, materials and production
budget to a total of 50,000 EUR
