This call for proposals welcomes designers, filmmakers, architects, artists, and makers to submit a proposal for design-driven research to be conducted in Summer 2017, in residence in the MDP studio. Past residents have included Maya Gurantz and Elizabeth Goodman, m-a-u-s-e-r, Nicolas Nova, Ilona Gaynor, and Sascha Pohflepp, whose projects have been exhibited and published widely, most recently at the Shenzhen Urbanism and Architecture Biennial and the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
The selected resident/s will be awarded project space, a 5,000 USD stipend, a 5,000 USD project budget, access to Art Center's state-of-the-art shops and facilities, and a small team of Media Design graduate students for seven weeks. The residency concludes with a small exhibition and public presentation.
Housed in a former supersonic jet testing facility, the MDP studio is part of the Wind Tunnel Graduate Center for Critical Practice, which includes the Wind Tunnel Gallery, the Graduate Art studios and galleries, and the Hixon Courtyard, in the heart of Art Center's south campus in Pasadena, California.

Now accepting MFA applications for Graduate Media Design Practices
Preferred deadline: January 15, 2017
Graduate Media Design Practices/Lab+Field brings interdisciplinary design and emerging technology practices to a world of cultural and social change. Graduates get an MFA in Media Design through one of two tracks: Lab or Field. Lab track students use critical making in a studio context to explore the impact of new ideas from science, technology, and culture. Field track students tackle social issues in a networked global context. Students learn firsthand through fieldwork at local and international sites how to put people at the center of technological change. By transforming their interests and skills into a unique design practice, they graduate ready to define their own role in the world to come.
