The Etrillard Foundation intends to encourage artistic initiatives which seek to promote traditional European culture through contemporary interpretations in order to confer a wider visibility to transversal representations.

On behalf of the Foundation, Mrs. Anna Morettini, director, has set up two major initiatives that will take place in the second half of 2016.

The Anna Morettini Prize
The winner of the Anna Morettini Prize will be awarded 20,000 EUR and the winner's production will be exhibited both in Florence and in Paris.

The Prize aims at artists whose works combine a keen understanding of Florence and the Florentine Renaissance with the insight and angle of contemporary art. Preference will be given to artists who are under 45 years with the intent to reveal and promote emerging talents. All traditional artistic techniques and crafts, as well as new media, are encouraged.

The theme of the first edition of the Anna Morettini Prize is "Savonarola's World."

Its emphasis is on Girolamo Savonarola and the complex relationships that he created with the Florentine artistic tradition. The meteoric and tragic destiny of Savonarola has often led to contradictory interpretations. Was he a sincere preacher who, following the theologians of the Middle Ages, wanted to establish a "the City of God" in Florence? Or was he an apprentice dictator who aimed at suffocating free speech and liberty in one of the most brilliant cities in Italy? Was he a fanatic who despised the earthly pleasures and life, and, above all, Renaissance art? Or was he a passionate supporter of an ideal of purity and equality?

Savonarola's complex personality might inspire candidates to reflect on vanity and its role in artistic creation, on representations of art and power, as well as on how Savonarola's strong and often extreme passions might have shaped Florentine artistic production.

The Anna Morettini Prize will be awarded by a group of recognized and established art experts and competent professionals in the international cultural scene. The Prize will be officially offered on behalf of the Foundation by Anna Morettini on January 5, 2017 in Florence.

Candidates must send their full application file, in addition to the registration form by October 15, 2016. They will find all the information about the Prize on the website www.prixannamorettini.com.

Exhibition: Renaissances—A Contemporary Tribute to Florence
October 14–December 18, 2016 in Paris
Hôtel de la Salle, 21 rue de l'Université, 75007

Exhibition in Florence January 5–March 3, 2017

The exhibition will take place in a 18th century hotel particulier and will be open during FIAC, the international contemporary art fair.

On behalf of the Etrillard Foundation, Anna Morettini has conceived an exhibition which intends to detect Florentine Renaissance artistic codes and baselines in contemporary art production and by so doing better to understand how breakthroughs and ruptures can transform themselves after centuries into artistic references.

The exhibition wishes to recreate an inspired dialogue between those contemporary artists who invest in or echo Florentine heritage, techniques and materials in a homage to its Renaissance Masters.

Mixing tradition and immediate creation or perception gives its impetus to this exhibition which will include artworks of Glenn Brown, Jan Fabre, Ryan Gander, Gerhard Richter, among others.
