At the Museum Ludwig, an institution of the city of Cologne, beginning on September 1, 2016, the position of
Deputy Director (full-time at 39 hours per week) will become available.

The Museum Ludwig is one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Europe and is among the world's leading institutions with its diverse collection of art from modernism, the Russian avant-garde, Picasso, Pop Art, as well as contemporary art and photography.

The main areas of responsibility include:
–The function of Deputy Director
–Management of internal and external communications with groups relevant to the Museum Ludwig (administration, government, committees)
–Maintaining contact with sponsors, art collectors, and lenders
–Conception and organization of exhibition projects for 20th and 21st century art
–Coordination of acquisitions of artworks and objects
–Coordination of departments regarding the scholarly supervision of the collection of the Museum Ludwig
–Coordination with international museums and cultural institutions
–Planning, creation, and coordination of publications
–Matters related to health and safety standards within the area of responsibility

Requirements:
–University degree (master's degree, Magister) in 20th and 21st century art history or a comparable degree
–At least one year of documented professional experience abroad
–Evidence of deep experience in conceiving and realizing exhibitions or publications at art museums or other cultural institutions

Required competences:
–Fluent in spoken and written German as well as in English
–Highly reliable
–Excellent social skills
–High level of perseverance and above-average ability to handle stress
–Confident and distinguished appearance
–Highly developed communication and leadership abilities
–Excellent motivational, persuasive, and decision-making abilities
–High level of commitment combined with a team- and goal-oriented as well as structured work ethic
–Highly developed organizational skills and flexibility
–Excellent perceptive and analytical aptitude
–Ability to give and receive constructive criticism

Additional desirable criteria:
–Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

What we offer:
The salary grade for the position is 15 TVöD (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst/Collective Agreement for Civil Service Employees), previously salary grade Ia, Fg. 1a BAT (Bundesangestelltentarifvertrag/Federal Employee Collective Agreement).

The duration of the employment contract will be indefinite.

The work week will be 39 hours.

Please note that, due to the nature of the job, it will be necessary to be flexible regarding working hours within the boundaries of the municipal regulations (possibly including evenings and weekends) and, if necessary, to work longer than the regular working hours. The same applies to travel for work.
