The Department of Art and Business at the University of Guanajuato, Campus Irapuato-Salamanca (DICIS) invites professors and researchers on Animation, Computing Simulation, Virtual Reality, Contemporary Art History, Audio, Film, and Invention or Innovation in the Digital Art who holds a PhD to apply for a tenure track 12 month academic position in the field of multimedia and audio, to be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor. Tenure position is available after two years. We seek to hire individuals who are innovating and contributing in the directions of experimental art forms of animation, computing simulation, VR, audio, sound art and multimedia as well as contemporary and digital art history who will enrich the criticism and practice of technology driven art.
The candidates should demonstrate deep knowledge in New Media History, multimedia, media theory as well as general visual art history and/or electronic music, and sound art. Our interest is in candidates, which are able to deal with interactive media, multimedia and sound art. The areas of research and teaching include virtual environments, media arts, multimedia, electroacoustic music and sound art. The Department of Art and Business offers the bachelor Degree in Digital Arts oriented towards production and criticism. The department expects opening a PhD program within the next year, to challenge the traditional borders of Digital art and the relation ART AND TECHNOLOGY from its historical and philosophical perspective as well as to play an important role in the criticism that supports the digital media. Our bachelor program covers areas of art, media history, music appreciation, audio as well as a variety of practical courses of video, animation, interactivity and multimedia.
At present the Digital Arts Program serves more than three hundred students, and together with the Division of Engineering, serves more than two thousand students. The Department's aim is to create opportunities for scholarly, creative and pedagogical collaborations within the department Art Research Group (Cuerpo Académico), which has a strong collaboration with the Departments of Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics Engineering.
Within the two first years of being hired, candidates are requested to become members of the National Researchers System (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores SNI) or the National Art Creativity System (Sistema Nacional de Creadores Artísticos SNCA) both dependent of the Federal Ministry of Education (Secretaria de Educación Pública SEP) who provides an additional salary depending of the qualifications of the candidate.
Research
Projects undertaken by faculty members are supported by the Dirección de Apoyo a la Investigación y al Posgrado DAIP, the National Found for the Arts (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes FONCA) and the National Council of Science and Technology (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología CONACYT) as well as other public and private institutions.
The academic calendar for the Engineering Division consists of two semesters of 18-week academic periods each year. Professors teach three courses every semester. Professors who qualify for the National System of Researchers or the National System of Creators, take no more than two courses per semester. Professors who hold a permanent department position are expected to advise and mentor students, make appropriate changes to the educational program in order to improve and upgrade as well as participate in administrative and promotional sessions of educational programs at high school (College level). Professors are also asked to guide students for their final graduate dissertations. Social and environmental initiatives are highly appreciated.
SALARY, SOCIAL INSURANCE and other BENEFITS: The University of Guanajuato ranks 6th rate in Mexico, and within the best 30 in the Ibero-American world.
Accepted applicants will get all benefits of National Workers, Private Medical Service, Aguinaldo (Christmas bonus equivalent to at least one month's salary), and other admissible cash benefits.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Multimedia Arts, Electronic Music, Conservatory Music, Film, Animation. Candidates must demonstrate experience in exhibition and curatorial practice, record of participation in new media or electronic art festivals, and publications in history and criticism of art in International Journals (with impact factor)preferably listed in the JCR.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: University Teaching Experience.
